Mehmet’s* sister approached him, visibly confused. “I had a dream that you were a Christian,” she said. Just days earlier Mehmet had cried to God for help. “Lord, how can I tell them I am a Christian? How can I explain You?” Leaving the faith is shameful for a Muslim family — so shameful that the person is often abused or disowned. Mehmet was terrified to tell his family that he accepted Christ, not knowing how they would react. Now Mehmet knew that God answered his prayer. “Yes, I am a Christian,” he told his sister. “From now on I believe.” Mehmet became bold in his faith in that moment, now telling his friends about Jesus and explaining the Bible. He peacefully told them how Jesus had changed his life, even when they argued and tried to convince him to return to Islam. Mehmet worried as he prepared for his required military service that he wouldn’t be able to talk about Christ without being punished. But the transformation in Mehmet’s life was witness enough. “I haven’t heard any bad words come out of your mouth,” a friend told Mehmet on his most difficult day in the military. “Because of that, I’ve paid attention to you. Why are you such a different person?” Mehmet explained that he is a Christian, then he shared the Gospel and its impact on his life. “God gave me so much help,” Mehmet said of his opportunities to talk about Christ in the military. “None of this came from me — it all came from God.” Check out the Get Involved section to learn more about reaching Muslims and find out how you can join God’s work among Muslims through prayer. *Names have been changed and identities concealed on this site.
